Lexi’s Song
©2004 written by Kris Smith

A melody lives in my heart
Even though it’s breaking
The tears I shed from deep inside
Don’t help the endless aching
I still wake every morning
Knowing that you’re gone
And the birds just keep on singing
Singing me their song
Those birds just keep on singing
Singing me their song.

I think of all the many times
I held you in my arms
Rocking you with lullabyes
And singing you my songs
But when I wake each morning
I remember you are gone
But the birds just keep on singing,
Singing me their song
Those birds just keep on singing
Singing me their song.

Your laughter lingers in my mind
Echoing the joy
The happy times and love we shared
endures forevermore
As time has passed I realize
You’re not so far away
Your essence glows within my heart
Where warmth will always stay.

So when I wake each morning now
I know that you’re not gone
And birds just keep on singing,
They’re singing me that song
Yes, the birds just keep on singing…
they’re singing Lexi's song.
